Treatment

The song “Without You” is essentially about a guy who gets broken up with and misses the girl who doesn’t deserve him but the song itself is a lot deeper. So with the narrative of my story I want to show the males perspective which is having confused feelings. So to show his perspective I want to create a mysterious narrative that will leave the viewer confused just like the man. The song itself is fairly relatable to most viewers so I want to make sure the male protagonist is well received and relatable. The narrative will be based on the guy being with and without the girl to match the lyrics which conforms to Goodwin’s conventions. My survey showed that people mainly wanted to narrative but still some people chose performance and I want my music video to reflect this so I want my music video to be narrative based whilst seeing bits of the band perform. To make the band more relatable and to show they are down to earth, I want the lead singer to appear a lot as I believe his son

Survey Analysis

Image
My responses from male to female was fairly even with slightly more mores completing my survey than females. Its good to get an equal view of what males and females think as they may have different views. Its also good to have an equal mix as both males and females tend to listen to female music where as other types of music such as metal tend to only me male. However this question was not that effective in helping me design a music video. Most of the people who filled out my survey tend to be tends to be teens because I am myself and teen and I advertised it on my social and most of my contacts on there are in the same age bracket. However I also handed out surveys to people outside of HMV in chapelfield Norwich which allowed me to ask people of a higher age bracket. Although I found it hard to ask people of higher age bracket as I was more comfortable asking people around my age bracket. Its good to results around this age because stereotypically most people who listen to ind

Digipak Analysis – Whatever People Say I Am, That’s Exactly What I’m Not by Arctic Monkeys

Image
The front of the digipak does not contain the album title like most other digipaks which is strange and unusual which is a characteristic on indie music. There is only a close up of a man smoking which could be used for identity as consumer and certainly I would associate that picture if I saw it with the  are considered arctic monkeys. The man could be representative of the Arctic Monkeys as it just looks like an average man possibly working class because of the stereotypical smoking, t-shirt and trim cut. The casual look is also a characteristic of indie music. This also appeals to their target market as they are likely to be average working class people and this mirrors them. It also shows that they too are just average guys and that fame hasn’t gone to their heads. The average guy doesn’t look like a typical boyband member which tells us that they aren’t a typical boy band that they have a darker undertone. There is lots to do with smoking throughout the album as on the front

Poster Analysis - Circa Waves Tour 2017

Image
The largest text on the poster by far is the name of the band which is clearly to make it the first thing the consumers will see. Its also white which stands out against the poster as it fades to black the title is. The bands font is also different to their previous albums style, its changed from scruffy to be block capitals with quirky little changes in the letters like the line in the A. This shows the bands slight shift in change of music, its still indie hence the simplistic and not caring attitude but is slightly smarter and darker as it is now more indie rock. The band picture has been changed as it looks like there is a red filter so there skin looks red rather than skin coloured, this is to match their album Different creatures which only uses the colours red, black and white. This could represent that their music is them and is important to them showing a real connection between you listening to their music and them. This can also be a form of identity and to help sel

Music Video Analysis - Your Love by The Magic Gang

Image
The music video starts with the a close up of a fairly old tv and its flicking through channels, one shows fans applauding which is probably at a performance by the band but it also shows that they are a band and they are active. The old TV shows another indie feature of using nostalgic items as these are becoming more trend, just like Circa Waves using a Polaroid camera. After flicking through some more channels, a reporting comes on screen and does a pretend broadcast, through this he explains that they band have released various eps and have been signed. I believe that the director decided to put this in because The Magic Gang are a fairly small up and coming band so this helps to show the audience that just because they haven’t heard of them doesn’t mean they haven’t accomplished much. This should hopefully entice them to try more of their music. The reporter then calls them by the wrong name which was probably for comedic values as they are not as well-known as they deserve t

Digipak Analysis – Circa Waves

Image
The album artwork is of clouds in a warming blue sky, there is also a boy jumping into the clouds. This artwork links to the album as the Album is called young chasers and the connotations behind clouds is usually dreams and the boy in the picture could be representative of the band as they are all young boys, so the artwork could have a deeping meaning to it like maybe that the young boys are chasing their dreams of becoming a successful band or their dreams of having relations with a female. The boy on the cover also appears to wet and in swim gear and as the band is called circa waves, this could link to the waves part suggesting that maybe the clouds are waves and that he is jumping into them. Looking at the sky is consider quite a relaxing activity and so is looking at the artwork on the digipak which reflects the band music of the album as the music is not heavy and just makes you feel good. The most popular song on the album is called T-shirt weather which could also link
