Locations
A quite café – I need a fairly quiet café to film in as well
as gaining permission from the owners. I would also like you a small coffee shop
rather than a larger chain as this will suit the quirky and unique indie style. Such as Diane's Pantry in Reepham. Dianes pantry is also very bright and vibrant as seen in the picture below, this will create a nice contrast between this and the rest of the music video which will be set in dark locations such as streets, car parks and abandoned buildings.
A carpark – I need to use a small car park that isn’t to
full during the day as I want the band to be performing here as it is quirky and
unique as well as looking kind of dirty and low budget which follows the indie
genre. This will help the audience to identify that this is an indie music video by following the conventions such as low budget locations as the cultivation theory suggests.
A Saunders bus – I shall need to gain permission from Saunders
themselves as well as the actual bus driver. I have chosen Saunders
specifically because I know there buses are not always particularly clean and
are quite old which will conform to indie genre as it shows that not caring
look
Streets – I need a variety of streets and I feel my best bet
a variety would be in Norwich or Dereham. I know a few little known streets which have a
lot of street art which will give a very unique and creative hint to my shots.
I can also use these places to help edit in a secret message into the film which
will help build up the enigma. i would also like to film in a standard suburban street which will create a dull yet conventional back drop for the lead singer as the focus should be on him as I want to conform to Goodwin's star theory. They dull gray streets will create an excellent contrast against the colours of the lead singer such as his denim blue jacket. This can be seen in other indie music videos such as "Take a walk" by Passion Pit
Abandoned building - An abandoned building would give a very unique look to my music video as well as not many people can gain access to them, I happen to know of one and have been given permission. This location is filled with spray paint and is quite dirty which would reflect the indie genre perfectly with its quirky and not caring attitude. The male protagonist will go here on his journey to find all the pieces and his female counter part. The ruined building also reflects the ruined relationship of the male and female protagonist. The abandoned building is very cinematic and as my audience research showed, my audience is looking for escapism as most categorized as "strugglers" according to cross culture consumer categories and this cinematic location will make my video be more immersive and help my audience escape the struggles of reality.
Field – As it happens I am surrounded by fields, so I should
have no problem in gaining permission to use them as I also happen to know the
owner of one. I want to use a field as it’s really open and I want to use this
to show the loneliness and isolation of the male protagonist
I will most likely not use all these locations but I will most likely keep them in mind and maybe even film at most of them but when it comes down to editing I may decide toleave certain clips and locations out depending on what I see best fits my music video according to the conventions of the indie genre.
